Stories about Bodrum(in Greek :Halicarnassus) usually start with a stunning view of the castle rising over the Aegean waters which suddenly appears as you approach the town. However, those stories never end.

Each step in the peninsula takes you to another beginning and at the very end, every traveller gets a unique experience, therefore a story of his/her own. Because there is a different Bodrum for each and every one! Villas With Garden And Terrace In Bodrum

This beautiful place is one of the best kept open secrets in the Mediterranean and the world. Whether its long history, the beautiful nature, fine arts, the golden beaches, the bright sunshine, the incomparable ambiance, the robust night life or just the local culture, your story is there waiting for you.

Local Population

When we mention Bodrum in a casual conversation, for example about its population, we usually refer to the Bodrum not the town itself. This can be confusing sometimes, especially for those who have never been here before.

A few decades ago, Bodrum was a small fishing town, unknown to both international travellers and the Turkish people.  Villas With Garden And Terrace In Bodrum Residents were mostly fishermen and sponge divers with the rest of the population working on agriculture; attending to fruit gardens and olive groves spread over the peninsula.

There were not many towns and villages around back then; only a few scattered villages and farmhouses…

In 1950s the history of Bodrum took a new course by becoming one of the most famous vacation destinations in Turkey. In the 80s, tourism had started to take over the olive groves and the fruit gardens of the peninsula, replacing them with summer houses.

Today, official numbers state that the local population of the peninsula is around 400,000 and it usually exceeds 3 million in summers, after the visitors and the vacation house owners arrive. After being hit by the 2020 pandemic, many vacation house owners – especially the elderly, retired people and the people who can work from home – moved to Bodrum instead of being stuck in their apartments in the cities due to restrictions.

As of today, the exact population of the peninsula is unknown. Estimations range from 600,000 to 900,000.
